HOMEWORK
Your child will have reading homework every night once we begin the take-home reading part of our reading program. My goal is that all children read for at least 15 minutes each night Monday through Thursday. However, you will not need to time them or sign their logs. Their logs will be the logs they are using at school. They will write the title of the book or books that they have read in each day at school and will do the same at home. They will need to bring the logs back and forth from school to home and back again. The log and books will be coming home in a special "Super Hero" tote. Please ensure that your child returns the tote with the books and log to school each day. Thanks!
Math homework this year will focus on the mastery of the addition and subtraction facts through 20. Your child will bring home a group of facts that they need to be fluent in. They should keep them at home each week to study. When you and your child feel that they are fluent in that pack of facts, they should bring the slip from you stating that they are ready to be test on that set of facts, any day, and I will test them on that set. If they are 100% fluent with that group of facts, I will send home the next group of facts to be mastered. We will do this until your child has 100% mastery of all the facts. In addition, once I get it up and running your child is welcome to do some math fact practice on Reflex - an online math facts program. So Math homework all year is to study those addition and subtraction facts. I have also sent home rings of addition and subtraction facts that your child still needs to master from past months. Please continue to study these as well.
Wordwork homework is to focus on reading and spelling the high frequency words. Once your child can read all the words we will switch over to spelling these high frequency words. Your child will have a ring of words that he/she is working on. I will add 6 more words to the ring each week. If your child is working on reading the cards will be white, if they are working on spelling the cards will be yellow. They can also practice word work by doing Lexia at home.
